My research has two streams, both deal with human rights, global governance, and international law
Stream 1 - Norm Development and Contestation - Most of these use cases involving sexual orientation and gender identity, the "family" and religion.
Stream 2 - Institutional Design and Effectiveness
Future Work? Issues I'm interested in developing post-tenure
Stream 1 - Norm Development and Contestation - Most of these use cases involving sexual orientation and gender identity, the "family" and religion.
- How do human rights norms develop in the UN Human Rights Council?
- Which types of strategies do states pursue to alter or challenge norms?
- How do states implement and follow-up on international human rights norms?
Stream 2 - Institutional Design and Effectiveness
- Which theories best predict state voting in international organizations? Particularly the UN Human Rights Council.
- Has the transition from the Commission on Human Rights to the Human Rights Council made a "difference" in outcomes?
- What are best and worst practices in institutional design to better protect human rights?
Future Work? Issues I'm interested in developing post-tenure
- Implementing UN Human Rights Council resolutions in domestic context
- The interaction between science, technology, and human rights protection
- The role of human rights defenders in implementing international human rights norms
- The war on terrorism and human rights, particularly with vulnerable groups
